Police refused it was a bomb that caused explosion at Philippine House of Representatives
November 13, 2007An explosion on Tuesday evening inside the Philippine House of Representatives killed a legislator’s driver and wounded several people, including three lawmakers, reported CNN and AFP.
Police have cordoned off the area in suburban Quezon City and were looking for clues. Jose de Venecia, the speaker, issued a statement calling the explosion an act of terrorism. “Certainly this is another attempt at destabilization and creating chaos and anarchy,” the statement said. “Only terrorists explode bombs.”
The police, however, refused to say that it was a terrorist act. The police could not yet say what type of explosion, if any, was used.
Political situation in the country is very tense now. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is facing a third impeachment because of corruption scandals and opposition.
